11:25 a.m. - Patsy reacts to the news that the surgery was successful while in the waiting room of the hospital with family and friends. While others jump to their feet and celebrate with hugs, Patsy stays quietly in her chair. "I'll believe it when I see it," she says.


A number of people have asked why I shot this photo the way I did, with the slow shutter speed and intentional blurring and I'm never really sure what the answer is. I try to first observe, then anticipate and react in situations I shoot but the whys often elude me. I think in this case it was because of the tension and energy in the air; everybody was on pins a needles waiting to hear the news. I just think I tried to reflect that in the photo .
