9:15 a.m. - Dr. Robert Iacono, center, goes over an MRI-generated computer image of Tim's brain and talks to other surgeons about the path they will take to the pallidum, where they will make two small lesions in hopes of easing Tim's symptoms.

Not a particularly strong photo but one that is necessary to the story, illustrating the technical aspect of the surgery. Up until a week or so before the big day we had permission to shoot in the operating room, until a local television station asked for the same. Loma Linda then denied our permission reasoning, correctly, that they could not grant one form of media access and not the other. Still, the folks at the medical center were very cooperative and they gave us great access to their facility. We got to see all of the process up to surgery as well as sit in on the planning discussions. It was very enlightening.
