Luisi faces a battle that plagues many Tulare County farmers: development is encroaching and farming, with its spraying of pesticides and stirring of dust, gets more difficult with people living nearby.


Frank Luisi is a living legacy and one of the last of a dying breed: a farmer in a landscape where agribusiness is king. I know these men well, having grown up in the San Joaquin Valley in a farm family, and I like to think this photo illustrates some of their uncertainty towards the future of agriculture in the area. It's easy to see how he's been shaped by the land he farms....
